Jerry Colangelo plans to begin filling out the roster for the 2012 Olympics

The 2012 London Olympics are still almost a year away, but the leaders of USA Basketball's plan within the next month to start putting the roster.

Jerry Colangelo, USA Basketball Phoenix Suns chairman and former owner, told the Associated Press that he candidates within the next month to review plans for contact, if they would be interested in defending the team's gold medals won in the 2008 Olympics.

Colangelo told The Associated Press in a phone interview, "Just to make contact with all of the people on our list, give them a whole picture of what is coming. Basically to get a read from them as to what their interests and intentions are in advance."

Colangelo said, "I'm really not worried about (anyone) not being available. If someone chooses not to play, that's one thing. The one thing I do know, we have an outstanding pool of players. Whoever the 12 turn out to be, they will represent our country very well."

Ghana's Olympic ban could be lifted in the coming days

London 2012 Olympics bosses have revealed this week

“These individuals have dedicated their lives to reaching the pinnacle of their sport in order to represent Team GB at the Olympics and it is absolutely right that they should be involved in this once in a generation opportunity to support Team GB on home soil.”

Champion Leigh Howard says Australia duel 'is going to win', London 2012 Olympics

"Let's also not count out the other countries like Russia who are really starting to show their hand and New Zealand. But country versus country it's going to be a really closely fought battle between Australia and Great Britain on the track, that's in no doubt."

However, Howard is sure that Australia will come out on top is.

"The Aussies are going to win, we killed it in Athens then we had a bad time in Beijing and I think we put in a lot of time and investment to get our trackies back on top and I think it will pay off."
